6 MEN ENDGAME TABLEBASE GENERATOR
One problem is that the standard nalimov generator doesn't work with 7-men tablebases (I have no clue why not). It is typically used by a computer chess engine during play, or by a human or computer that is retrospectively analysing a game that has already been played. An endgame tablebase is a computerized database that contains precalculated exhaustive analysis of a chess endgame position. Endgame tablebases are great for analysis, maybe can be used as an adjudication tool, but in engine vs engine matches they mask actual endgame strength. I will see if I can find it back.Īnd I read an estimate that the 7-men tablebases will be about 200Tb big. Frequency of the diferent Nalimov EGTB 6 men. Ill make the argument that any test of the capabilities of an engine should include its ability to properly play the endgame by itself. One (based on depth to conversion, rather then depth to mate) included an ending which took just over 500 (!) moves until a piece was finally taken. I came across a website with some people working on 7-men tablebases. And I am not sure if a 32-men tablebase would increase interest in chess a lot Since 6-men tablebases take 5-men tablebases take 7 Gb, and 6-men tablebases about 1 Tb, I assume 7-men would be in the order of magnitude of at least 100 Tb (perhaps even a lot more because of exponential growth). People are still working on 7 men tablebases, but not sure there's much progress. Generating most 6 piece tablebases is relatively fast, if I understood correctly, and they are available. Right now, time is the biggest issue in adding both DTC and 6-piece tables, I'm juggling a few other feature additions that will keep me away from endgames for a while. Most of the ones where people say, "I don't care if my move takes 10 moves longer to mate, it converts to something trivial much quicker" have pawns).
6 MEN ENDGAME TABLEBASE CODE
I've noticed a new potential source of DTC (depth to conversion) tables which I might be able to use (someone else also provided some code for DTC, but in its current form it only produced pawnless endgames, and the reasons I'd like to have DTC is mainly for the endgames with pawns, as it allows me to be more lenient on some human like moves where the human move might take quite a few more moves to mate but is the fastest way to convert to a simpler endgame. The tablebase bundled with this app should bring about 50 ELO improvement to the Stockfish engine and is recommended for all serious players.I'd still really like to have 6 piece tablebases, even in the short time since this thread started the price per GB has fallen dramatically, so price is not the major barrier, but rather time in modifying some of the code to deal with extra pieces properly. Integrate tablebase with the SmallFish chess app (it's free) Import your own Syzygy files with iTunes Check distance to the nearest checkmate Improve your Stockfish analysis and performance The latest Stockfish 8 chess engine provide support of the new Syzygy tablebase format. The elo at LTC (90m+30s) is probably too small to measure (2-5 elo). The elo difference at blitz, using SF, with 5-6 pieces, is around 5-10 elo. The tablebase is able to tell you whether your position is a win, loss or draw instantly, without running lengthly analysis. Tablebases are statistically superior to none (in Stockfish). Syzygy endgame tablebase is a massive database that contains pre-calculated exhaustive analysis of chess endgame positions. You should also leave a few GB unused disk space while running SmallFish with 6-men endgames. It is important to import the 5-men tablebase files before the 6-men endgame files. You will need at least 400MB disk space to run this app. Another 200MB disk space to process the tablebase files Import 5-men Syzygy tablebase files into SmallFish (Search "Syzygy Tablebase" on the App Store if you don't have the 5-men app). The SmallFish app might crash if you have too many 6-pieces installed (not enough memory). It is recommended only a single 6-men endgame is installed (e.g. Syzygy 6-men endgames require significant system resources to run. Please read the following description carefully. You can also import your own Syzygy files with iTunes. Download this app to import 6-men tablebase files into SmallFish.
